CONSTITUTION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PAPAL KNIGHTS AND MEDALISTS IN NIGERIA

Chapter One

Preamble, Name and Boundary, Motto and Logo

1.1.Preamble:

We the papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria having resolved to form a National body of Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria, Do hereby make, enact and give to ourselves the following Constitution The constitution is supreme and its provision shall be the binding force on all members.

1.2. Name:

The Name of the organization shall be called and addressed Association of papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria (hereafter referred to as “THE ASSOCIATION”

1.3. Nature:

The organization shall be a non-profit making Association.

1.4. The territorial limits of THE ASSOCIATION shall be all the Ecclesiastical Provinces of Nigeria.

1.5. Headquarters:

The Registered Office and Headquarters of THE ASSOCIATION shall be situated in Abuja, Nigeria, while there shall be provincial and Diocesan Units

1.6. The Motto of THE ASSOCIATION shall be “Serving God, the Church and Humanity”

1.7. The Logo of THE ASSOCIATION shall be according to agreed design.

2.1. Aims and Objectives

The Aims and Objectives of THE ASSOCIATION are:

  • To identify, distinguish and bring together all those persons honored with appointment to, membership in the Papal Orders, namely the Pontifical Equestrian Order of Pius IX (Ordine Piano; Pian Order), the Equestrian Pontifical Order of Saint Gregory the Great ( Ordine di san Gregorio Magno), and the Pontifical Equestrian Order of Pope Saint Sylvester ( Ordine di san silvestro), or Who have received the Crosses Pro Ecclesia et Potifice, and Benemerenti
  • To support and defend the Supreme Pontiff and the Magisterium of the Church.
  • To support the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) on matters affecting the spiritual and socio-political developments of the Catholic Church in Nigeria.
  • To foster and promote Catholic Principles and doctrine amongst members and other Catholic faithful through good examples and enlightenment
  • To guard, defend, protect and promote Catholics doctrines and Catholic interest.
  • To promote the welfare of welfare of members and foster fraternal fellowship, so as to build mutual cooperation and common understanding amongst the papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria.
  • To celebrate an annual Mass in honour of Saint Gregory the Great and Pope Saint Sylvester
  • To celebrate an annual Mass in Honour of the Roman Pontiff on the occasion of the anniversary of his election as Pope
  • To interact and cooperate with other Papal Knights ans Medalists in other jurisdiction of the world

Membership

 

Membership is open to all Papal Knights and Medalists resident in Nigeria upon payment of a registration fee.

There shall be a Directory of all members. This shall include the names of all Papal Honorees, their degrees, titles and awards, telephone, e-mail and other addresses, and details and dates of all Papal honors

Officers of THE ASSOCIATION and their duties

The Aims and Objectives of THE ASSOCIATION are:

  • 4.1 The officers of THE ASSOCIATION shall be National President, National Vice President, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary, National Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Auditor, Welfare Secretary, National Legal Adviser, Provost and two Ex Officio Members, namely the immediate past National President and Secretary General each of whom shall have one vote
  • 4.2 THE ASSOCIATION shall be governed by an Executive Council composed of all the officers as stated in 4.1 who shall have one vote each except when there is a tie and the National President will have a casting vote

    4.3 All officers of THE ASSOCIATION may hold their offices for one term of three years, provided that no officer of THE ASSOCIATION may hold the same office for more than two terms of three years each

    4.4. Elections shall be conducted every three years with members from at least two third of the provinces represented

    4.5 Election shall be by secret ballot with a simple majority

    4.6 All Ecclesiastical provinces shall be duly represented in the offices, provided that no province shall have more than two offices

    4.7 The National President or National Vice President shall be elected from among the Papal Knights who have spent five years post Investiture.

    4.8 Member of the Council may not receive any remuneration for the exercise of their functions other that reimbursement of those out of pocket expenses authorized by the council.

    4.9 The National President is the Chief Executive Officer of THE ASSOCIATION and shall preside over the meetings of the Council, and THE COUNCIL

    4.10 The National President shall convene meetings of the Council and THE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Council can also be called on a resolution by two third of the Provinces to have a meetings of Council.

    4.11 The National Vice President shall perform the functions of the National President or any other functions that may be assigned to him by the Council.

    4.12 The Secretary General shall be responsible for keeping the records of the affairs of THE ASSOCIATION. Prepare the agenda for meetings after due consultation with the National President Record Minutes of meetings and circulate them to members; sign the Associations Documents with the National President. Compile a list of all members. Issue and circulate invitations, notices and general correspondences to members. The Secretary General shall maintain the membership roll of THE ASSOCIATION; record any other proceedings of the Council and THE ASSOCIATION; shall be responsible for all correspondences of the council and THE ASSOCIATION and perform any other duties as ordinary pertain to the office of the Secretary General.

    4.13 There shall be an Assistant Secretary who shall assist the Secretary General in the performance of the assigned duties and perform the secretarial functions in the absence of the Secretary General.

    4.14. The National Treasurer shall be responsible for keeping records of the finances and safe keeping of all the funds of THE ASSOCIATION. Shall deposit all funds collected in THE ASSOCIATION’S bank Account within five days of collection; render statement of Accounts to the council at each Council meeting and to THE ASSOCIATION at the end of each year or at any conference of THE ASSOCIATION, attend to the payment of all bills, and have all other duties as ordinary pertain the office of National Treasurer.

    4.15. The Financial Secretary shall be responsible for collecting membership fees and dues and maintain the books of accounts, shall prepare a draft annual budget and submit it to the council for approval at the beginning of the year; receive all monies of THE ASSOCIATION and pay same to the National Treasurer within five days of collection; shall maintain all financial report to the council and THE ASSOCIATION at its meetings; shall raise all financial vouchers for all payments duly approved by the Council and perform all other duties as ordinary pertain to the office of financial.

    4.16. The Publicity Secretary shall be responsible for all the publicity and public relations activities of THE ASSOCIATION including and public relations activities of THE ASSOCIATION including the defence of issues that border on our faith. He/She shall be the editor of the News letter.

    4.17.  The Welfare Secretary shall see to the welfare of members as may be approved by the Council and the Association

    4.18. The Auditor shall conduct the internal audit of the accounts of THE ASSOCIATION at least once a year.

    4.19. The Provost shall maintain order during meetings of the Council and THE ASSOCIATION
